Photojournalism allows one to venture into places they would otherwise never be allowed or care to visit."Photography was a license to go wherever I wanted and to do what I want to do." - Diane Arbus
This quote can be connected to another by Susan Sontag.
" The photographer is always trying to colonize new experiences or find new ways to look at familiar subjects - to fight against boredom." - Susan Sontag
In seeking new experiences myself as well most photojournalist (or so it would seem) are driven by the journey and not always the destination. A great number of photojournalist seem to be almost nomadic in the early part of their careers. Like some of the stories I linked yesterday HERE the images missed are all part of the journey of life.
In my budding career I have already reaped a few opportunities to venture into new places, and I can only imagine what the future holds for me.
Every now and again photographers are granted access to places that the public rarely knows of. The link today is a short photo-essay of such places. This is not a new concept, as it has been done before. However, I am surprised each time photos of these "unknown" places come about.
