Letting something off my chest. When looking for hope for the future and investigating how others got to where they are today the last thing anyone wants to here is "I was in the right place at the right time." I never wanna here that. I am not going to sit somewhere waiting for an opportunity to come along. I am going to get up and work for what I want. I am going to put my name out there. I am going to make phone calls, knock on doors or write letters.

Something that disgusts me

"But I didn’t really know where to go from there. I was trying to teach myself and that was going only so-so. My wife suggested that I try to assist. She said: “Why don’t you go to Samy’s Camera and put up some flyers?” When I got to Samy’s [in Los Angeles], I saw that about 25 other people had the same idea. I just thought, ‘How am I going to do this?’ I didn’t get much from the few flyers I put up, but just exactly when I started hanging those flyers, a successful photographer came in to the bar. I started talking to him about my interest in photography. He asked me if I wanted to do assisting, and it was just that easy.

I was in the right place at the right time, and he gave me a chance. He introduced me to other assistants and photographers, and things started taking off. It’s all been pretty lucky, but I hustled a lot, too. Early on, what I didn’t know in terms of technical stuff I tried to make up for in hustle."

These are the words of someone who was just fascinated by photography. Not someone who ate, slept and lived every minute of the day for it.
I know the "technical stuff" and I "hustle."
I am not a believer of things falling into your lap. I work for what I have.
