Surprises.

Pic of the day 58/365
Today I had to pack up my camera and ship it off to New Jersey for repair.
I'm a Canon shooter and now stuck with a loaner Nikon for the weekend. Not easy to get used to in a crunch, like today when I had to shoot an assignment and mine died on me. But, in the absence of mine, Canon will be shipping me a nice new Mark III to play with.

Well if you find yourself with 8.5min to kill you can check out the video below. It is from my getaway during the past weekend.

Someone made my day today... In a good way.
Thank you.

Clouds, Cake and Cookies...

Alliteration is more for laughs around the office than a true headline. (in my opinion)
I counted two of them today without looking for it.

I mentioned the closing of the Albuquerque Tribune earlier in the week. Saturday was their last edition.
They produced a shortvideo of the employees reactions and thoughts...

I also have a link.
LA Times multimedia piece composed of stills from the scene of a murder and the events that followed.

Run, run, running...

Run, run, running...
Conversing for a change
Spinning at my post

Basketball every night for two weeks now...
What a way to end the long season.

I have a link to a slideshow from the photographers at the the Albequerque Tribune which published it's last paper this week. Leaving the news to it's competitor. This is nothing new, I believe this is the third paper I know of to shut down it's press this month.

Maybe I picked a poor career choice. I always new the newspaper industry was failing. I was just oblivious to the extent at which it was happening.

Smaller outlets must concentrate more on their community, as I have said many time before.

Days whiz by now, I have put on auto pilot to focus on my journey's other aspects.

It is full of wonderful images and some insight from each photographer.

Back to the grind.

Pic of the day 55/365
Of course a bit of chaos came about from my absence at the office.
I had imagined coming back to a giant crater as if the paper had imploded from my absence. Soon they will realize they have taken me for granted. and they will falter.

I had to put out a few fires which is nothing new for me.
Today was a bit disturbing walking into the office to find out their were three fatal wrecks. I was put on the job of covering them for todays copy but I had to get the details of the causes and the after effects from them for tomorrow.
In one accident a vehicle with six people rolled throwing two passengers out, one was killed another was take to Duke Med Center.
I wasn't at the scene of these wrecks today but I had a strong connection to them after my investigating.
While riding to the basketball games (tourney time!) I was thinking about the effects of this one particular accident on all the people involved and how that will change their lives.

I've been busy editing images form the weekend in my down time today. The weekend made me wanna move a bit closer to the world of non photojournalisc work in photography. I continue to find evidence that the world of photojournalist in going down the tubes faster and faster. I have had an idea of a co-op studio on the back burner for some time. Maybe soon it will be a reality. I feel their is more of a future for that but it comes with less on the humanitarian side.
